About & Operator

What this site is

JDM Tackle Guide is an information site about fishing tackle made by Japanese makers, written in English for anglers outside Japan. We list specifications as published by each maker on their official Japanese site (for Shimano, the figures in Shimano’s 2026 printed catalog), explain model codes, and show where an item can be bought from sellers in Japan.

What this site is not

We do not sell products and we do not ship anything. Every purchase happens on the seller’s site (for example eBay). We are not affiliated with any tackle maker; brand names are used only to identify products.

How we earn money

Some links to sellers are affiliate links. If you buy through them, eBay pays us a commission through the eBay Partner Network. It does not change the price you pay. As an eBay Partner Network affiliate, we earn from qualifying purchases.

Import duty and tax estimates

Many listings show an estimated total that includes import duty and tax. How we calculate it, and why what you actually pay is the eBay checkout total plus anything the carrier collects on delivery, is explained on Import duty & tax.

How we build this

• Specs: transcribed from each maker’s official Japanese site (Shimano: its 2026 printed catalog), checked twice by independent methods before publishing. Each page shows when its specs were last checked.
• Import duty and tax: rates come from official customs sources — the US Harmonized Tariff Schedule (USITC), the EU’s TARIC and Access2Markets, the Australian Border Force tariff, the Canada Border Services Agency customs tariff and other national customs sites. We watch these sources for changes every week, re-check the rates in full every month, and correct our tables when a source changes. See Import duty & tax.
• Exchange rates: the Bank of Japan’s monthly reference rates (IMF rates for currencies the Bank of Japan does not list), updated each month.
• eBay listings: fetched from eBay’s API and never shown older than 6 hours. We do not keep or show price history.

Corrections

Specs are transcribed from the figures each maker publishes on its official site (for Shimano, its 2026 printed catalog; figures only) and checked twice by independent methods before publishing. If you find an error, use the “Feedback & requests” link on any page. Corrections are made on the page itself, and each page shows when its specs were last checked.
