Is there a US version of the Daiwa Shunei Kawahagi EX?
We could not find the Shunei Kawahagi EX by name in Daiwa’s 2026-27 US catalog (printed, July 2026), so the sizes and specs on this page are the Japan-market ones. Sellers who ship from Japan are the usual source for this exact model in the US; a US dealer may still carry a related model under a different name.

About this item
What the maker's numbers say about this model:
- The shortest packed length is 172 cm (67.7 in) (S-172).
- Weights run from 49 g (1.7 oz) on the S-172 to 55 g (1.9 oz) on the H-175.
- At 49 g, the S-172 is the lightest 1.72 m (5'8") rod we list (of 23 at that length).
- 99% carbon.
- Japan list price ¥80,000–¥81,000, which is in the top quarter (by Japan list price) of the 1440 rod series we list.
- Rated by Daiwa for sinkers #10–#40 (37.5–150 g).
- Japanese party-boat fishing. Styles and tackle are specific to Japan.
- Sizes marked go (号) are the Japanese standard. For sinkers one go is exactly 3.75 g, so we convert it; for line it is a diameter class rather than a breaking strain, so we print the maker's number as published.
- Specs are Daiwa's published figures; conversions to imperial are ours.
How the sizes differ
- Compared with the S-172, the MHH-174 is 2 cm longer and 5 g heavier, takes up to 40 go sinkers (5 go more), packs to 174 cm (vs 172 cm) and costs ¥1,000 more in Japan.
- Compared with the MHH-174, the S/MH-175 is 1 cm longer and 3 g lighter and packs to 175 cm (vs 174 cm).
