Japanese electric fishing reels Deep drop and power assist reels
Electric fishing reels — also called deep drop reels or power assist reels, and dendō (dendo or dendoh) reels in Japan. 63 series and 95 sizes from Daiwa, MIYA EPOCH, Shimano and Tailwalk. Every figure on this page comes from the maker’s own Japanese spec tables.
What an electric reel does
A motor winds the line in, for fishing in deep water from a boat. For each size the maker publishes two figures you will not find on an ordinary reel: the maximum lifting power (kg) and the winding speed (metres per minute).
What the motor changes on a deep drop
The makers rate these reels at 90–180 m of line per minute. At those rated speeds, bringing a rig up from 300 m takes about 1.7–3.3 minutes, every drop, without turning a handle. The lifting-power figure is the most the motor is rated to pull, so a size with more lifting power is meant for heavier rigs and bigger fish (18–1132 kg across the sizes here). The real speed with a fish and current on the line is lower than the rated figure.
Why buy one from Japan
All 63 series here come from the makers’ Japanese catalogues, and their spec tables are published in Japanese. That is why we translate them here. We list every size and generation in those catalogues, including ones a shop outside Japan may not stock, and on each model page we estimate the total delivered from Japan to your country (item + shipping + import duty or tax). A maker’s warranty on a Japan-market model may not apply outside Japan, so check the maker’s terms before you buy.
How to compare them
- Lifting power: from 18 kg to 1132 kg across the sizes here. A higher figure usually comes with a bigger, heavier reel, so read it next to the weight.
- Weight: from 345 g to 6,800 g.
- Line capacity: the maker lists how much PE line each size holds. You can see it on each size’s page.
- Japan list price: from ¥53,200 to ¥685,000 before tax. This is the maker’s price in Japan, not what you pay abroad.
