What we collect
- Server logs. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) records standard request data (IP address, browser, page requested, time) for security and to keep the site running. We use the visitor’s country, derived from the IP address, to show listings that ship to that country. We do not store IP addresses ourselves.
- Anonymous counters. We count how many times each link to eBay on this site is pressed (by day, model, size, country and which link on the page), and for each press we also keep one line with the time (to the second), country, model, size, which link was pressed and the affiliate code in that link, so that we can match it with eBay’s referral report; which search words are used on this site (by day and word), how many times the home page, each series page and each model page is viewed (page views by day and page type: home, series, model; for the home and series pages also by your country as worked out from your connection; for model pages also by the delivery country shown on the page — the one you picked, or the initial guess from the cf_country cookie), how many times a model page shows no eBay listings (by day, model and that delivery country), which website you arrived from (domain name only, for example google.com — never the full address; “direct” if there was none), how the first page you open on a visit, and any eBay link you press on that same page, was reached (one of three words: “search” for a search engine, “site” for another website, or “direct” if there was no referring address — worked out from the referring address your browser sends, together with your country from your connection; pages you reach by moving around this site are not classified as search, site or direct, and nothing is stored on your device for this), how many times a model is added to the comparison page (by day and model), which card on the home page (Popular, New, or “New cheaper than used”) was pressed to open a model page (by day, card, model and your country as worked out from your connection), which controls on a model page are used (one of a fixed list of ten short names such as “size”, “country”, “compare” or “zoom” — by day, control name and your country from your connection; the model is not recorded), how far down a model page was read before it was closed (one of four words: “price”, “listings”, “alternatives” or “end” — by day, word and your country from your connection; the model is not recorded), and which part of this site a model page was opened from (one of a fixed list of words such as “home”, “series”, “compare” or “guide”, or “search”, “site” or “direct” when you arrive from outside — by day, word and your country from your connection; no page address is recorded). These counts contain no IP address, device identifier or cookie, and cannot be linked to a person. Search words that look like an email address are not recorded, and search words are deleted after 90 days. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running and improving the site. The counters contain no personal data. All of these counts are deleted after 12 months (search words after 90 days).
- Feedback and requests. If you send us a correction, a model you’d like added, a request about a delivery country or currency, or other feedback by email, we keep the message you write, which type you chose, the page you sent it from, and, if you give it, your email address, so we can reply. Nothing else. Feedback emails are kept for up to 12 months.
- eBay listing and seller information. Where eBay listings are shown (on the home page, a model page or the comparison page), we ask eBay for those listings and show each seller’s positive-feedback percentage as eBay returns it. We do not show sellers’ names. To limit requests to eBay, the same results may be reused from a temporary cache, usually for up to 3 hours and never for more than 6 hours, after which they are requested fresh from eBay. The home page’s Popular and New lists are the exception: we fetch them from eBay every few hours and keep them in our database for up to 6 hours, then delete them. We also keep, for up to 30 days, the listing numbers of any listings our team has chosen not to show, and the time the home page lists were last opened from each country (country and time only). This is listing information only (no information about visitors).
Cookies
- cf_country. Set automatically on every visit. Contains only a 2-letter country code, for one day. It sets the initial guess for “deliver to” so the page does not default to the United States for everyone; it is not used for tracking. You can clear it in your browser at any time — the site still works, and you can pick your delivery country yourself from “Deliver to” at the top of the page.
- A staff-only access cookie. Used only by our own team to preview pages before they are public. Visitors never receive this cookie.
- jt_hide. A second staff-only cookie, set only on devices that already hold the staff access cookie, so that our team sees a “Hide (staff)” button next to listings. It lasts 30 days. Visitors never receive it, and holding it alone does nothing.
- jt_staff. Set only when a page is opened with a special address that our own team uses on its own devices (and, until the browser is closed, when the site is opened by an automated browser), so that our team’s own visits and clicks and automated checks are counted separately from visitors’. It contains only a 1 or a 0, lasts one year, and cannot identify you. Ordinary visitors do not receive it; if you ever do, its only effect is that your visits are not counted with other visitors’, and you can clear it in your browser at any time.
Stored in your browser (local and session storage)
These stay on your device:
- Delivery country and currency — so the site remembers your choice.
- Unit display (metric / imperial / both) — saved only after you change it; the page does not write anything to your device just from being opened.
- “From Japan only” filter — your last choice on a model page.
- Compare-page refresh count — today’s date and how many listings the comparison page has refreshed from eBay today on this device, so that one device cannot use up our daily eBay request allowance.
- Back-to-compare link — the address of the model page you opened from the comparison page and which list (rods or reels) it came from, kept only until you close the tab, so that page can show a “Back to compare” link.
- Compare list — the models and listing numbers you have added to the comparison page. To show current prices, the listing numbers you’ve saved are sent to our server; no personal data is included. A link made with “Copy link to this list” contains only the model and listing codes you picked; it does not identify you or your device.
You can clear all of these from your browser’s site settings; the site keeps working with its defaults.
What we do not do
We do not sell or share personal data. We do not run advertising trackers.
Affiliate links
Links to eBay contain an affiliate identifier and a code showing which button was clicked (no personal information) so that eBay can attribute a purchase to this site. Once you click through to eBay, eBay may set its own cookies on their site; that is governed by the eBay User Agreement and eBay Privacy Notice, not by us.
Your rights
You can ask us what data we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by writing to info [at] css-kk.com. If you are in the EU/EEA or the UK, you also have the rights set out in the GDPR / UK GDPR.
